Information About the Cherry Knolls Babysitting Co-op

The Cherry Knolls Babysitting Co-op is seeking new moms and kids!!! Please read the following and contact us at babysittingcoop@cherryknolls.org if you're interested in learning more about this dynamic group of women and children.

What is it?
As the longest-running babysitting co-op in the metropolitan area, the Cherry Knolls Babysitting Co-op was formed to be a non-monetary means to provide cooperative babysitting for families in the Cherry Knolls neighborhood. When a member needs or wants a sit, he/she contacts another member on the co-op roster to request a sit. Once the sit is completed, the sitter contacts the Secretary to report the hours. The sitter's balance goes up by the number of hours while the goer's balance goes down by the same number of hours. The Co-op can be used on a very regular basis, such as trading with another mom every week, or on an as-needed basis for appointments, volunteering, shopping, or even an evening out with your spouse.

What ELSE is it?
In addition to the convenience of having a list of overly-qualified babysitters at your fingertips, the Babysitting Co-op offers a wonderful opportunity to mingle with other moms and socialize both with and without your children. Meetings are held every other month, September through May. The meetings are fun and entertaining, yet are always productive. It's a great excuse to get out of the house and unwind once in a while!
As well, several socials are organized throughout the year. Past socials have included Bunko, hayrides, a pumpkin fest, bowling, happy hours, and a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser to name a few.  Some socials include spouses and/or children and alumni of the co-op. Every December, the President hosts a holiday party with dinner and a gift exchange that is loads of fun!
The Co-op also organizes several functions throughout the year, such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Baby Games at the Fourth of July party at the pool, a Halloween party for the children of the Co-op, hosting a Family Dinner Night at the pool, and fundraising for Carl Sandburg Elementary School.

What are the commitments?
As a member of the Co-op, you're requested to attend 3 out of 5 of the general membership meetings. Initiation dues will be $5.00 per member upon entering the co-op. A $5.00 annual membership fee is due each January. Each member hosts or co-hosts a meeting at least once a year.

Who can join?
The co-op is open to all moms with children ages 8 and under. If you're new to the neighborhood, it's a great way to get to know some new faces, make new friends and socialize your children in a casual, friendly atmosphere! If you're interested, please email president@cherryknolls.org and come join us for our next meeting!
